On Sunday 14th June 2009, Southdown Rovers entered the annual George Parris West Ham United U10s Tournament played on the Upton Park pitch with the players, families & friends making the journey to the ground by coach.

The tournament didn't get off to a great start, as the boys appeared to be nervous playing on the pitch where a lot of their heroes had played before, with a 2-0 loss to Chigwell Boys in the opening game.

Knowing they had to win the next 2 group games to qualify for the quarter final, the boys responded with great character with a 5-0 win over Buntingford Cougars (a stunning hat-trick by Alex Whitton and goals from Jack McLellan & Adam Lovatt) & 2nd place in the group was secured with a 1-0 win over Aztec with the all important goal from Jack McLellan.

The quarter final was played against Kesgrave Kestrels who had won their group scoring a hatful of goals. Southdown conceded 2 quick goals at the start of the game but once again great character was shown with 2 goals from Sean Birch & Ashley McDermott-roe to draw level. Unfortunately a well struck shot from the Kestrels settled the game close to full time.

Throughout the tournament the boys played some attractive football with compliments given to the team by the officials for the way they played their games.

A wonderful day & experience for the boys that will live with them throughout their footballing childhood.

These pictures were taken after a successful visit to The Arsenal Youth Academy when the boys played 4 games on Wednesday 15th October 2008. Great experience for the boys & all had an enjoyable time.

Southdown Rovers player, George Harwood, signs for the Brighton & Hove Albion Academy on Monday 12th November 2008
