Southdown Minors

Minors Training For 2007 - 2008 starts Saturday 8th September

The Southdown Minors Section was established in 1996 to provide football coaching to younger age groups in the Southdowns area. This has been proved very popular not only with players from the Burgess Hill area. We now have participants from Haywards Heath, Hassocks, Henfield, Cuckfield, Hurstpeirpoint and also as far as Brighton, Hove and Peacehaven.

All the coaches give their time freely. Many are parents who are interested in the beautiful game, who later become managers of their own teams.

Southdown Minors train every Saturday morning starting at 10am and finishing at 11.30am. A small charge of £2 per session is levied and this money is put towards the rental of the pitches, football kits, training equipment and awards.

At the end of each season (which runs from September to March/April - dependant upon when Easter falls) players who have attended 5 sessions or more are presented with a certificate of achievement.

With over 120 children registered to Southdown Minors, with an average 80 to 90 turning up every Saturday our aim is to ensure that every child who wants to play football gets that opportunity, at grass roots level. This has never been in a healthier state.

The minors cater for three age groups starting with the

Under 6's (Lions)

Players ages range from five to six and are taught the basics of football.

Under 7's (Tigers)

As players move up into the under 7's they continue to learn the basics as well as moving onto more advance footballing skills and experience their first freindly games against local teams from around the Mid Sussex area

This year there are U7 tournaments being arranged through the year

Under 8's (Panthers)

On progressing into their final year before entering the Mid Sussex and District Youth League the boys skills are fine tuned and are taught positional awareness. This year the U8's will be playing in the Crawley U8's friendly league played on Sunday mornings at Crawley Sports Centre
